Creator of canvases of color and light that celebrate life and feeds the soul...

While his training did not begin until the 1930's,  his mother related the fact that "Gino would draw or paint whenever he stopped riding his bicycle." Some of these early efforts have survived.

His art training followed in the foot steps of other great Italian masters. Gino became an apprentice in the workshops established  by students of the "Macchiaioli" -- Telemaco Signorini, Giovanni Fattori and Silvestro Legas. Gino continued his formal training in Rome at the Art Lycheum.

His training was greatly influenced by this artistic movement, little known today outside of Italy. However, it was influential in the impressionist, expressionist and social realism movements to come in the 20th century.

The Macchiaioli technique of using patches of colors and shading to depict life and scene gives us an understanding of the artistic roots and appreciation of Gino's application and further experimentation with the technique.

One of his teachers would say of his work, "He captures the light of Rome and the colors of Naples." Many years later his good friend, the artist Reginald Watkins, would comment, "His art captures light and gives life for all to enjoy".
